About Us: History

Nyack’s Little Schoolhouse (NLSH) was founded in 1996 by Christa Sampath ten years after she started Christa Care. The Schoolhouse was set up based on a vision that Christa had of creating and exclusive and idyllic school based on the fourfold principles of love and respect for the children, excellent teaching, beautiful surroundings, and attention to detail. As a result, NLSH has developed and maintained a reputation as one of the top early childhood education centers in New York. Our center was one of the first in Rockland County to obtain National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation. In January of 2008 we become one of the first pre-schools in the US to achieve re-accreditation from NAEYC by meeting their new standards.

Christa Care was founded in 1986 by Christa Sampath when her daughter was one year old. After searching for a local center that could care for her child and being unable to find a place that was just right, Christa decided to start her own daycare. More than 25 years later, Christa continues to serve the community's children with Christa Care, which is now a toddler center.
